Lite om War inc osv.
Blame John Cusack. If he hadn?t written a part for Hilary Duff in his upcoming movie, her new album would have come out a long time ago and her hair would still be blond. But Duff wanted to make "War, Inc." ? well, after some coaxing she did.
The singer/actress was working on her album Dignity last summer ? taking breaks to promote her movie "Material Girls" and the launch of her perfume, With Love (also the name of her current single) ? and she was about halfway done when she got a fortuitous call from her agent."He was like, ?I got this script, John Cusack wrote it,? " Duff said. "And I was like, ?Really? That?s awesome, I love John.? But then he says, ?But you?d have to play a pop star.? And I was like, ?Oh nooooooooooo. I don?t want to play a pop star. I don?t want to sing!? "
Translation: She didn?t want to be typecast. Duff had a promising acting career as a teen with "Lizzie McGuire," "Cheaper by the Dozen" and "A Cinderella Story," but as more of her films started underperforming (like her most recent flop "Material Girls"), she was having trouble transitioning to more adult roles.
"Nobody thought I could do anything different," she said. "It was tough for a while. I was stuck in this bubble of Hilary Duff, and no one was really taking a chance on me. So I was like, ?I?ll just make the record, because I?m not going to do another movie like that.? I wanted to challenge myself or not do it."
ut before Duff could dismiss the idea entirely, her agent insisted that she read the "War, Inc." script, since Cusack would be calling her regardless (see "Hilary Duff At War With John Cusack, ?Departed? Won?t Die: Sundance File"). "I was like, ?Hmm, OK,? " she said. "So I read it, and I was flipping out."
Duff immediately fell in love with her character, Yonica, a crazy, tacky pop star who gets caught in an assassin?s scheme in a fictional Middle Eastern country called Turgastan. Cusack, the hit man, is hired by a private corporation to kill a competing oil company?s CEO and pretends to be producing a trade show that includes a wedding between Yonica and the son of an arms dealer. "It?s about the people trying to exploit war ? the war profiteers," Cusack told MTV News at Sundance, describing it as an Iraq war satire along the lines of "Dr. Strangelove."
"It?s off the wall and nuts and really smart and controversial and really proves the point," Duff said. "And I was so excited about it, like, ?Gosh, can I do this? I don?t know if I can do this!? Because you know what, when people won?t take a chance on you, you have like no confidence."
Then Cusack called her, and that was the clincher, Duff said. "He was like, ?You?ve got to go for it. I wrote this with you in mind.? So I was like, ?I have to go, I have to do it.? "?
"It was so great, because I got to be someone totally outside of what I?m like in real life," she said. "This girl had learned that when she acts crazy and uses her body to get what she wants ? she?s safe. But she doesn?t want to be like that, these nasty controlling men are making her be that, so when she meets John?s character, she?s like, ?Save me!? "
And Yonica needs a lot of saving. "War, Inc." keeps her in danger at all times ? she even has to shoot a machine gun to protect herself, a first for the actress. "There?s like a Dr. Scholl?s store in the middle of this country and bombs going off over here, a hummer shrink-wrapped in ? "Shrek 2" Coming Soon? over there, it?s crazy," Duff said. "It was really sick. In a good way."
Jag älskar början om att skivan hade varit släppt för länge sen, och att hon fortfarande hade varit blond osv. So cute!
Lite trachy.. kanske
